What a wonderful opening weekend for the Yankton State Hospital Original Water Colors & Oils Collection exhibit. It was wonderful to see so many people come out over Riverboat Days weekend. We would like to say thank you to Lois Varvel for donating the picture railing that is being installed in the parlor rooms. They add so much to the exhibit. She is a true friend of the Mead Cultural Education Center. If you haven’t seen it yet, the exhibit will remain open to the end of the year. Just a reminder from last week – we are still looking for Dr. Mead’s portrait. If you or someone you know has seen this or any of the paintings that once hung on the walls of the Yankton State Hospital buildings, please let us know. The YCHS and University of South Dakota would like to have the entire collection of more than 300 pieces identified and marked if they are available for public view or in a private collection. It is a great time to visit the Mead Cultural Education Center and see what is new! Check out our calendar of events at www.meadbuilding.org, or you can stop out at the Mead Cultural Education Center at 82 Mickelson Drive. Our summer hours are Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm (closed Wednesdays) and Sunday 1pm-5pm. Office hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
