"Work has begun on the east wing on our first floor. Scraping, painting, and adding insulation are just some of the ways that the space is being transformed. Eventually, this space will house several phases of the telling of Yankton County's history. People often ask where certain pieces from the old location will be displayed. The East Wing will be the place you will see many artifacts from the next phase of Yankton's history after Lewis & Clark's discovery of the area pertaining to 1807 through the 1856 pre-Yankton settlements when "Coexisting" opens sometime in the future. Don't miss our collaborative fundraiser sponsored by South Dakota Magazine and the Lewis & Clark Theatre Company/Dakota Theatre which will be showing the movie "Dances with Wolves" on its 30th anniversary at 2pm on January 19th! Admission will be free-will donations that will all benefit the Mead Cultural Education Center."
